G8: "Aid is not a concession, but Act of Justice

id to Africa? If the African continent should present the bill, many believe that the western world would have large debts to pay for its past, in particular for the slavery and colonialism”, as stated to MISNA by Father Silvio Turazzi, a Xaverian, for nearly 20 years working in the east Democratic Republic of Congo.
“From the G8 in Scotland a positive awareness of a global movement undoubtedly emerges on the problem of Africa. But I have the impression that the allocation of funds and debt relief are perceived as a ‘concession’, rather than an act of justice”. Without forgetting the other necessary passages for the eradication of poverty: “I think of the trade relations between Europe and Africa, which puts on the market an enormous quantity of raw materials that then do not enter the budgets…”.
I have the impression that the allocation of funds and debt relief are perceived as a ‘concession’, rather than an act of justice.
Aside from the development aid announced by the Eight ‘world powers’ at the conclusion of the summit of Gleneagles, in Scotland, according to Fr. Turazzi there is urgent need “to impose human, cultural and trade relations on a level of equality with Africa”.
The missionary explains, Europe “is not yet aware of an important subject: the presence of Sub-Saharan African immigrants, that in our universities and workplaces are offering us a great demonstration of the type of humanity of Africans”. Fr. Turazzi claims to have experienced it personally during his long permanence in ex-Zaire: “I am a paraplegic: but in the 18 years spent in Goma I understood that Africa can give much to the Western world”.
