e,
Xaverian Missionaries arrived in Spain in 1962. The goals of our
presence here are: Mission Awareness among the People of God,
Vocation Ministry and the Formation of new Xaverians. Of
course, we were ever attracted to the land which gave birth in 1506
to our Patron, St. Francis Xavier.
When
we arrived in 1962, Spain was providing numerous vocations to every
congregation, and the Xaverians were not excluded. The
foundation in Spain remained an "unfulfilled dream of Bishop
Conforti." The history of the missions is enriched by the
splendid examples and lives of Spanish missionaries.
Among
the various ways of doing this, we give priority to the following:
accompaniment of existing Christian groups, helping them discover
and live their missionary vocation; collaboration in the formation
of pastoral leaders for Mission Animation and the missionary
formation of adolescents and young people. For example, various
groups of young people get together periodically in our communities
of Burlada (Pamplona), Madrid (Carabanchel), and Murcia, for a
well-defined formation in the universal mission. A group of young
people is being formed in the vocation of the Xaverian Lay
Associates.
Over
the past years numerous Spaniards have written their names on the
list of professed Xaverians. These work in every mission of
the Xaverian congregation, as our Charism demands of us... "to
live one's own country and preach the Good News in new
missions."
