St. Therese Parish Community - Chicago, IL

Celebrations of Seven Baptisms at Easter
his year has been a
grace-filled year, as seven catechumens are welcomed into the Catholic Church at St. Therese in Chinatown. It’s indeed a record. Some of them are well known in the community, since they have been long-time friends and sympathizers. Fr. Michael remarks: "We celebrated the Baptisms, Confirmation and Eucharist of seven adult catechumens at St. Therese in Chinatown, Chicago. Certainly, these are not the numbers I used to have at Holy Cross in Freetown, Sierra Leone, but I believe they are miracles of God’s Grace. Here, we don’t fish with nets, but we use fishing poles! The parish community has followed their journey with prayer, which was intensified during the Scrutinies of Lent. We look at these neophytes as precious gifts of the Lord, whom we want to protect and accompany in their growth. We did not only highlight the right understanding of Church’s disciplines and rules, but also on their personal conversion and service to the Church. Each of them has chosen either an activity or a group within the parish so that they exercise their “kingly priesthood” in the service of the Ecclesial community."
These are their names: Xiu Ping Huang (Therese), Oi Lin Chan (Mary), Eugene Kwan (Eugene), John Moy (John), Daniel Bin Ng (Daniel), Richard May (Richard), Duo Han (Dulas)

“Lunar New Year” at St. Therese Church, with concelebrated Eucharist, the traditional Dragon Dance, the rite honoring the ancestors, fireworks outside of the church, and the usual dinner and entertainment by the children of the school, in the newly remodeled basement of St. Therese. World Mission Sunday celebration
orld Mission Sunday is always a great event that involves parishioners and children at St. Therese Mission church in Chinatown. It was a grand style celebration, prepared week after week through the month, traveling as a journey, from one Continent to the other, Sunday after Sunday. The school children got involved with it, and the community of faith remembered in prayer the missionaries that had worked at St. Therese, and all missionaries who are now in far-away places. The baptisms of two children gave St. Therese Church the possibility of renewing the baptismal promises and its missionary dedication. In the photo above, pictured are Dimitri (who received baptism) with his parents, Suharno, François, Valery and Fr. Marcos.
