Typhoon in Manila - Philippines

hanks for your interest regarding the
recent tragic news around here, which affect our brothers and sisters of the Philippines. We're witnessing a major movement of thousands of people who show determination, solidarity and compassion, trying to be useful in different ways: food, work, financial aid, etc... And we understand that there is another super-typhoon coming!
The Xaverians and our closest friends are safe, even though we had to go through the ordeal of a 12-hour communication black out, and we could not reach each other, even when radios and TV were describing the tragic situation. We faced some serious damages in the new parish in
Marikina, and the people in that area suffered great devastation, images we could not describe if it wasn't that they are in front of our own eyes. The new parish office is completely "gone," and Frs. Mexicano and Emanuele had to move quickly from one roof to another to fight the flooding waters that soon became a
16" river. Thank God they were spared, scared, but safe, among the many victims, and with thousands of families who have lost everything.
We did not have problems in our community of Project 8. The first floor of the house of the delegation in
Kamias is practically under mud, and the office of Fr. Archie is lost! With the students and Fr. Aldo, we were able to go and start the cleaning process.
The Sitio Militar church and balcony became a center of evacuation for a day and half, but then the 250 families returned to their daily struggles.
We continue to help them with food, clothing, and medicines. Yet, for most of them is an eternal emergency situation, a daily struggle to
survive, a persistent via crucis... they don't seem to mind these setbacks, and they are thankful to God for the aid afforded in their situation.
Thanks for your prayers. Fr. Eugenio Pulcini, s.x
