Fr. Vasco Milani Mission Departure Ceremony at St. Charles Borromeo, Milwaukeewonderful mission sending celebration took place at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Milwaukee, on Sunday Jan. 26, 2003, with the presence of Archbishop Timothy DolanFr. Vasco Milani was the honored guest and the one "sent" by this local church, to the communities of Belem, Brazil.  The Readings of this Sunday Mass fit well the message of Mission, as Jesus called his disciples to follow him.  Bishop Dolan invited the over 600 participants to reflect on the two aspects of following the Lord: "to come" to the Lord, and "to go" to bring the Good News.

The inspiring celebration, enriched by meaningful music, with bell choir, brass and organ, the participation of Eucharistic ministers, school children's gifts, congregation's applauses and singing, the presence of members of the parish, St. Joan Antida sisters, and of the Xaverian friends from all-over Wisconsin and Illinois, the leadership and friendship of Fr. Tony Zimmer... all of these aspects made the celebration even more beautiful.  How good it is when God's people gather together in the Lord.

A potluck of all sorts of goodies and sandwiches followed the Eucharistic Celebration, and all had a chance to meet Archbishop Timothy and Fr. Vasco.  Their smiles are contagious, and their dedication to following the Lord a true inspiration for all.  As Fr. Vasco leaves for his mission assignment, he treasures the memories of this even in his heart: "Here I am, Lord...  I will hold your people in my heart."
